The Queen travels from Buckingham Palace to Westminster along the Royal Route using the Irish State Coach drawn by four horses and is escorted by members of the Household Cavalry for the State Opening of Parliament.
The State Opening of Parliament is the most exciting and important event of the Parliamentary calendar.
The ceremony takes place at the House of Lords and will be held on 18th May. As Head of State, it is The Queen’s duty to formally open each new session of Parliament.
